Newel Bases FAQs
A newel post is always a fixed length, usually around 750mm-850mm long (excluding the peg). The newel base makes up the remainder of the height of the newel post. Top tip - pegged newel posts are ideal if you can’t easily remove the existing newel base from your staircase but wish to update the look of your newel.
When choosing a material for your newel base, remember to think about budget, style, preferred aesthetic and durability. Oak is a hardwood, which means it’s extremely tough and resistant to dents. Hemlock on the other hand, is a softwood however, it is actually a lot denser and stronger than many hardwoods.
The right newel base for you will depend on the style of your staircase, your budget, the interior design of your home and more! It’s important to think about what kind of aesthetic you are trying to create. Whether it’s a conventional look or more of a contemporary design - we have something for you!
Please note - The height of a newel base will depend on the specific staircase project.
